For many people, saving money is hard. There are a lot of expenses in life that take up our disposable income. How can you afford to save?
We’ve all heard the saying that you should be “paying yourself first” and I do agree with that. As a matter of fact I’ve written about it in this blog and ensure that each client sets up a system to ensure they do pay themselves first, but that’s not what we are talking about today.
About a year ago I moved my personal residence and when I did, I left the television provider with the old house (and didn’t renew it). I know there are a lot of people out there that think this is a crazy thought… but wait! I learned a few things from doing it.
1) I now watch less TV than I did before (I still watch it, but I watch it online through legal websites like CBC, CTV, Global TV, Netflix, etc.)
2) I enjoy my time at home more because I’m more active and doing seemingly productive things (like reading, or cleaning)
3) I love the extra $100 per month that I have increased my disposable income.
If you are looking at ways to save more, I would highly recommend cancelling your TV and getting rid of that $100+ bill per month in exchange for Netlix at approx $8.
