Part 3 of an 8 part series on little things we can do to make a difference
I thought it would be a good idea to go through some of the common mistakes people tend to make in their daily lives when it comes to being eco-friendly. For each of the next 5 editions I’ll give you a simple change that you can make to allow you to take some small steps to making a bigger difference!
This week we are looking at the laundry machines.
One easy error that you can run into is your dryer. You can increase the cost of running your dryer by up to 30% just for forgetting to clean out the lint filter! That is a lot of money just to forget to remove some lint!
An easy fix? Put a piece of tape on the start button itself that says STOP! That way it’s an immediate reminder to clean out the lint filter.
Another thing that a lot of people don’t consider is the detergent they are using. Most of the major brands of soap contain phosphates… which are incredibly toxic to the environment and cause 3 eyed fish (ok, maybe that can’t be proven directly but phosphates are not good for fish). There are lots of “better” options on the market for laundry detergents and fabric softeners that are either made from 100% natural ingredients or at the very least remove phosphates from the soap itself. Lots can be found while you are grocery shopping. My personal favourite is the Seventh Generation Natural Laundry Detergent. Check it out next time you need laundry detergent! You won’t be dissapointed!
